V She’s acknowledging God yet is sad to decline. Gifts, even events, are costly. We want to rise to others’ expectations. We suggest these responses: ‘Thank you, I really appreciate that you thought of me, but I can’t participate this year.’ Or ‘Thank you for inviting me. It will be a great evening but I have to take a pass so enjoy.’
