Spending Fast

I’m Miriam Neff with Wise Women Managing Money, and I’m Valerie Neff Hogan.

M I know of a couple who went on a six-month spending fast.  First, Scripture talks of fasting from eating.  A spending fast is not mentioned in the Bible. 

V This couple was increasing their hospitality, sharing their home with people in dire circumstances so their food budget went up, as well as other items.  Can you imagine not spending any money on clothing, entertainment, and only driving for necessary events?  Instead of spending money fast, they went on a spending fast.

M They saw God work in surprising ways.  Needed items deeply discounted, contentment beyond their past experience with what they had. In fact, they decided they did not want to add back into their budget things that seemed important before, and their focus on God as their provider grew.
