I’m Miriam Neff and I’m Valerie Neff Hogan with Wise Women Managing Money.

M Couples who manage their finances successfully make compromises.  We don’t like that word, but it’s necessary.  Starting the conversation with, ‘what are you willing to give up,’ is a nonstarter.

V Praying together is a good start.  ‘We want to honor you, Lord. We want to do this together. We know it’s all yours anyway.  Help us to steward your blessings together.’  Pray first and then pick good times to talk.  Are you fatigued and hungry?  That’s never a good time.  You might even limit the time spent in the early stages of discussion.

M Time to think after sharing ideas is always a good idea.  Giving up, ‘how I was taught,’ or not, takes time for recognition and time for change.
