Invitation Obligation

I’m Miriam Neff and I’m Valerie Neff Hogan with Wise Women Managing Money.

M Depression survivors lived by the rule, if you can’t pay cash, you can’t afford it.  Good words for today.  I recently heard of a millennial who was invited to a destination wedding, couldn’t afford it, but felt ‘obligated.’

V An invitation is not an obligation.  In friendship circles and family, financial realities vary greatly.  An honest decline should be acceptable.  A card with what you can give or gift is also acceptable.  Again, if you can’t pay cash, you can’t afford it.  Celebrations need not be costly, but many are.

M Remember, an invitation is not an obligation.  Being accountable with your finances is. True friends want you to be financially accountable.
